As I understand, without knowing to much. I think it can be traced back to you.
I downloaded a film from TPB yesterday and it automaticaly became public. It was uploading like a maniac, so I changed it to friends and it stopped uploading.Posted 4 years ago # -
Using the public option is pretty much as a normal torrentclient

So where are can you find a database of public trackers or do you just have to search in 1swarm. Also does it mean when I select a file as to be public does it mean any one on 1swarm can find the file if they search even if they have no friends. Or can people who dont even use 1swarm be able to see it any download say as a torrent.

OneSwarm also work as normal bit torrent, and a bit like DC++ with non limited friends, those parts are not anonymous.
When you share something public you are supposed to fill in a tracker url, for example tpb where it then goes public. As you would do with any bit torrent software when you upload something to any tracker.

Yeah but when I posted something publicly it offered me a tracker @ tracker.oneswarm.net tried putting that address unto my browser and it was redirected to the university site. Can ever one on oneswarm find the files I select public and can people off oneswarm find the files I put public.

I don't think OneSwarm is hosting it's own tracker. Where are you seeing this option, exactly? Normally, OneSwarm friends-only torrents have the fake tracker

I'm seeing this option when I select share file publicly.
It says http://tracker.oneswarm.net:6969/announce
It says http://tracker.not.needed.invalid/announce. greyed out until you select share public.
Does this mean when I select it everyone on OneSwarm can download it and just every one on OneSwarm

Oh, wow--maybe they are running their own tracker? Talking to talk to it via HTTP smarts back
you sent me garbage - no info hash, so something's running there! ;) Can somebody from OneSwarm officially confirm this? You don't need to share with the public via a tracker (whether
tracker.oneswarm.net,tracker.thepiratebay.org, etc.) in order for your friends and friends of friends (i.e., the OneSwarm community) to find and download your files. Under this visibility, the dummy trackertracker.not.needed.invalidis used, but doesn't do anything. If you do share with the public via one of the real trackers (
tracker.oneswarm.net,tracker.thepiratebay.org, etc.), then your IP will be publicly visible via the tracker(s) as a seeder.Posted 4 years ago # -
Can anyone shed any light on share the public option. Does this mean anyone on OneSwarm will find it. Or is it a tracker for a torrent.

It's "regular P2P" within the swarm. If you get the torrent using the public option you use the tracker and regular P2P bittorrent.
And the torrent can be "exported" to other P2P clients outside the swarm.Posted 4 years ago #
