   Hello, I am new, and I have a quick question.

   Does OneSwarm automatically upload user files when it is run?
   Does it take all the downloaded files in the designated download folder and share it with people?
   Will it share my private images and documents if they are inadvertently in the default "download folder" when OneSwarm is installed?
   How do I know what I am sharing with people?
   Why is my Upload/Download meter showing internet activity if I am not downloading or uploading anything, is it updating friend file lists???

   OneSwarm will automatically start uploading your "shared" files if they are requested by peers.

   Yes, all your "downloaded" files are automatically shared. But you can unshare them.

   No, it will not, except if you specifically set your "download folder" as a "watch directory"

   "How do I know what I am sharing with people?"

   You only share files or directories that you specifically designated as shared.

   "Why is my Upload/Download meter showing internet activity if I am not downloading or uploading anything, is it updating friend file lists???"

   Even if you are not uploading/downloading data, your OneSwarm client will still participate in the network by relaying data between other peers. This is part of the OneSwarm concept, and this help protecting other peers privacy.

   I'm also a newbie, and didn't want to make another thread so I'll post my questions here:
   When searching for something in OneSwarm it says friend to friend, are these the friends that I added with the community or everyone using OneSwarm?

   Downloading something inside oneswarm is done anonymously, but what if I choose a torrent on another website? Is it still processed within OneSwarm?

   I open OneSwarm in a browser, then closing it. Is it still working in the background?

   The search requests are sent to your friends inside the osF2F (the responses will follow the same path).
   Your friends will transmit them (if they have nothing to respond) to their friends, and so on.
   Your friends should be added using the Community Servers (see this post to find them : http://forum.oneswarm.org/topic/1425 ) or added manually.

   No. If you download files from Torrent, you will no more anonymous.

   Another question!

   Is OneSwarm 100% capable of being decentralised? In other words, can I add a friend/computer/node/IP to share files with simply by having a connection to them and no one else, or is a connection to a central user authority always required?

   I'm appalled by the current state of file and information sharing standards. Most everyone wants to require sharing through a third-party server. Yahoo, AIM, Facebook, YouTube, etc all encourage this and then mine and sell statistics and marketing data to whomever wants it. Because of that, there has been a lot of pushing to get software directly sharing information with only those someone wants to share with and not having to go through any third parties. Modems/routers are to the point where they support opening up new ports via upnp in order to facilitate all kinds of direct connections. It is my understanding that OneSwarm does this or other techniques to get around NAT issues as well, and that information is speedily directly sent to peers (like torrents). However, if it cannot do without a centralised server for every step of the process including adding computers/nodes/friends/IPs, it is vulnerable to attack.
