This really puzzles me a lot: You are already in my friends list since some time ago and you have added me to your friends list quite recently. So we are supposed to be friends within OneSwarm. Right? But still my OneSwarm client tells me the following:
Status: Friend offline or has not added you as friend
Status: Unknown (never connected)
Last successful connect: neverStrange, is it not?

Yes indeed, I added you 3 days ago, and when I tried to add you again today it said that you were already there. I'm confused.

I deleted you and a friend and then added you back in. If you could try the same then we can see if it works?

I looked at the details of the connection attempt, and instead of the usual "Looking up friend location in CHT" and "Looking up friend location in DHT" with nothing after it like I get with the others that I haven't connected to yet, I get (only for you):
02:57:46: Connection attempt initiated
02:57:46: Looking up friend location in CHT
02:57:46: Looking up friend location in DHT
02:57:46: got friend location from CHT: X.X.X.X:Y age=116 minutes
02:58:16 10945c3: connect attempt failed: Connection attempt to X.X.X.X:Y aborted: timed out after 30sec
02:58:16 10945c3: disconnected(note that I've X'd out your IP address and Y'd out your port for you privacy).
What could be the problem? Are you able to connect to other OneSwarm friends on here? (I am, and if you aren't then maybe it's your firewall blocking them or something?)

Oh and if you post your connection attempt with me, make sure you don't post my IP address! Cheers ;)

isdal mentioned that OneSwarm will try to reconnect every 15 minutes--but I'm not entirely convinced that all reconnections are reliably attempted (at least if you have a lot of friends). I've had to Force Connect secondary machines on my LAN that were known to be up and running but shown as disconnected, and I know Tristor's talked about having to do the same.

@PhrigejIckEj: Well, I have three (3) friends that I am positively connected to. That is it. I will try to delete and "readd" you as a friend of mine.
@tordmann: That is not the problem for me. I can see that I am automatically and (ir)regularily trying to connect to all my 100+ friends. But every such connection attempt, except for the ones related to my three (3) friends, fail. All the time.

@PhrigejIckEj: I get
CHT lookup failed: Receive timed outin my log when i try to connect to you.
Does anyone know exactly what the prerequisites are to successfully do a "CHT lookup"?

This is a good question, and I hope one of the developers explains it. Snooping around, it looks likely the timeout is only one second [
CHTClient.java:69]. This seems very small to me.Posted 1 year ago # -
We're looking at this now. One thing to point out is that the CHT uses UDP, so if you can't receive UDP packets, the CHT won't work. (But the DHT might; we strive to provide redundancy 8))

Well, now I have, at last, solved my friend connection problem. For you who are interested in the solution, here it is: I am using an Apple computer running Mac OS X. As I am very concerned with the health and security of my intranet and my computers, I had a security configuration that did not permit any incoming connections other than the ones considered necessary by default. The OneSwarm Client was naturally but unfortunately not one of them. To allow the OneSwarm Client to operate as intended, I did the following:
System Preferences -> Security -> Firewall -> Set access for specific services and applications -> + -> OneSwarm -> Allow incoming connectionsThe Classic UI, opened from the menu-bar, was the primary key to the solution. It contained the necessary information to identify the problem and the necessary tools to verify the solution.
