A write this post on my own name but i'm sure lots of us will recognize themselves in it.
I think 1s is one of the biggest thing that happens in the p2p, f2f, to the Internet world privacy system and i don't even realize all the possible evolutions of the osf system and i'm proud to be part of it, to test it, to make it grow, to invest my time and energy in it. We are thousands of ants involved in your project but i also feel really alone by the way you treated us. I think we need a little more feedbacks of what happens on your side, we aren't only users of your product we are part of it, we make it work also and sometimes it will be nice that you remember it.
Don't think i wrote this post because i'm angry, not at all, it's the opposite, i'm only a little disappointed, i love your project, as we say in french "c'est un cri du coeur".

Now i said what i was feeling, let's go back to work : since a few days, we(the french users) have an enormous problem with 1s.
At the beginning we were just a few but now everyday in the forum someone says having the same problem.
What is it:
When we start 1s after a while (between 15min and a few hours) suddenly all our ups and downs seems to be frozen. We have a nice 0 up, o down. the connection is broken with the all community and it can stays for hours. The only solution is to cut down 1s and maybe on the next restart it starts to work again.

We tried to find out where the bug was coming from.
New installation: same
new keys : same
the browsers : same
conclusion :
The problem comes from the Os

We figured out a way to make 1s work on one leg by removing all the s2c. It worked at the beginning but some scripts started to appeared to some of us using firefox (i know this bug is an old issues but how come in only 2 days more than 10 people have the same problem)
Some of us even got some firewal alerts, got there osf.friends files corrupted...

So what is going on? Do others have the same problem? and what about the next version? Are you working on it?

i hope you will listen to my message, meanwhile, long life to 1s and his all community members from his devs to his smallest user in his garage with his small commodore64

The forwarding drops to zero bug sounds a lot like something which is fixed in internal dev builds. You can try out the fix early here:

You might also try limiting the number of friends you have. We haven't tested with more than 50-100 locally, and if you have hundreds of online friends, I'm not exactly sure what might happen 8).

As to the broader issue of giving the community more feedback, we're hoping that the impending move to github (and the reuslting issue tracker / bug reporting support) will give us a better idea of what problems people are having as well as give you a better idea of what we're working on.

The "last dev build" referenced in the post ( http://forum.oneswarm.org/topic/1533#post-16019 ) does not not solves *completely* the trouble.

*It helps a lot* but not solves it : there is something else that goes wrong.
I (we) still have weird crash down ...

You should use Oneswarm as us. ;)

Help me to use it as you do 8)

What platform(s) do you observe this problem on? How many friends (online) do you have? How many shared files? How many of those are actively transferring? How long after you start does this problem occur?

If you're on a mac, I think we may have reproduced something like this... forwarding stops for a while, cpu usage is high, and then forwarding resumes after some time.

Shared files : since i reinstalled 1s , 20 files but got also the problems when i shared more than 100 files
Actively tranfering : 1
Timing : it depends, between 15 and 3 hours

I've posted a new OneSwarmAzMods.jar that includes additional error reporting and some _potential_ fixes to this problem.

(It seems to happen regularly in the morning for me, which is when I'm trying to figure out what's happening, but then goes away in the afternoon for some reason. Perhaps because everyone in France is sleeping ;-)

If this doesn't fix it, work will continue tomorrow morning.

BTW -- if you get an auto-update prompt when using this, don't apply it, it will replace the dev jar.

Update: looks like it's still happening, at least for me. Will keep working on a fix.

Thanks for the new patch, i just installed it and for now everything seems to be back to normal.
i put all the s2c back on track and with 50 friends online no connection break down until now.
After 1 hour it dropped back to 0 again with an overcharge on my cpu as usual
It seems you found the trail where the problem was coming from but it's not fixed yet.

I let you know when we'll get more feeds back on "the francophone board" and until that "long life to 1s"
It feels good to be heard.

BTW -- forwarding will usually resume if you let the client sit around for a bit, at least for me.

Sorry Piatek but I don't understand how and why after a while of using this version of 1S it's happening. It's obvious to me that this can't be related only to this program. This is pure logic !

So here are my thoughts.

I didn't update Java for a while, I update continuously Vista X64, I haven't really more friends in my database than usual and I am not connected to more friends than usual, about 15 to 25. I avoid connecting to any french people. I have very little results for my searches on any new shares, and those are very slow to download or simply seem to have stopped seeding. Those files aren't not in french. Also I don't exchange nor share french content. Apart from that everything seems to work. Friends are still getting my seeded shares and I seem to forward data quite fluently.
Also I have plenty of friends that I do not seem to be able to connect to anymore, even by forcing the connection. It seems like there is a new certificate problem. Could it be possible that Java system or MS has some certification used in 1S that expired ?
You seem to use Java 1.7 beta in Windows.
Also I am using Avira Free antivirus and Avira forced me to update to version 10. Avira is very much used as a free non MS, independent anti-virus system on Windows (any). Avira 10 seems to be much more aggressive on its behaviour.
I have Google Chrome installed and it updated itself to version 8. this is not my browser by default. It doesn't seem related and I don't use it as an UI to access 1S. I use a special profile of Firefox or MSIE (by default). Firefox is much better and fast.

Another problem could be that 1S is under some kind of attack, and/or, filtered at ISP level in France.
Tor, which I use a lot and is also based on Java, seems to have difficulties for about the same time as 1S.

Using the last OneSwarmAzMods.jar

MSIE 8 UI doesn't work anymore for some reason.
Firefox works well. Everything seems to be a little bit more responsive.
However it doesn't seem to restart the up/down after a very short stop. I was used to have faster up/down restarts in the past.
I had only one reconnection at first from 15 before quitting. I have to make a global massive reconnection.
Afer 10 minutes : 22 seeding, 10 downloading but only one seed really upping and nothing else. Searches are still bad and most of my torrents are still red and they shouldn't be (result of a popular search).
However only 6 friends reconnected and not all are from the previous connection before I changed OneSwarmAzMods.jar.

Now more friends connected (8) and upload and download is going up and down but only for forwarding, except one seed which is kept low and a download also very low. There is no real improvement from the original S client for me, except MSIE who does not work.
I have a bad feeling that this is more related to the network or the ISP connection.

I tried last Firefox 3.6, last Safari 5 and last Google Chrome 8 and they work great as a Web UI. MSIE 8 32 bit and 64 bit do not work anymore.

yeah I don't do the compile for MSIE in these dev builds (cuts down the compilation time substantially)

I'm not sure if what I'm doing will fix stuff. I'm still watching behavior just like you are. I'm just posting things as I try out new potential fixes ;-)

I'll post something more definitive once I stop seeing any problems locally.

cronborg: keep in mind this is a network app, if You start seeding it help not much if Your friends still don't forward. Same thing with searches... if something goes wrong in the path it helps little that Your 1s acts better.

This is not only France... I'm in sweeden and on ubuntu and have had the problem for a while. It's strange in that it morphs independent of updates of 1s. I used to have ~700 swarms, ~100 connected friends, a few pages of transfers where many was active. Now the pain threshold is ~100 swarms, ~50 connected friend and max a handfull of transfers....

Will try this fix soon... gotta work first...

Piatek good morning on your side of the world,

thanks for this new patch, i just installed it, "i let it sit around for a bit" and i'll keep you inform in a little while of how it's working.

Don't hesitate to post any new fixes so we can all together try them and see how they works and give you more efficients and fasts feed backs.

Sharing is the master key.

First impression after 15 min no break down, stable and 45 friends on line.

10 friends which has always been enough for me since I am holding only good friends. Sharing more than 150 torrents. 23 seeding, 10 downloading, and up : 0B/s, down : 0B/s. No comment. And all my seeds and downloads should be working as they always did in the past.

I am really thinking there is some kind of attack on the network. It's obvious to me. Some of my torrents are getting red in the Classic UI when they really shouldn't. So are there some people messing with the filter feature ? Is there a way to spread the filtering to all the network ? What happens if some people start to seed data with the same name, same publicized ed2k, not the same torrent, not the same content and stopping to up data (modified 1S client) before any check for the hash can happen ?

My download of the jar stalls at 97% (18 829 792 bytes). Using wget.

Firefox stall at 18 MB to.
