Regardless of which browser (Chrome, Firefox, or IE), I'm unable to share new files via remote access because the "Share" button is disabled. (Is this purposely disabled due to local vs. remote file system?)

Yes, that's right. For various security and technical reasons, you can't share files using remote access in the current version.
